Museum of Science

Leaving the SF exhibition, we go around the rest of the museum. It is too vast to see everything thoroughly. And not every gallery reflects our interests. But some trails are really good. The Legend of Apollo and Exploring Space on level 0 are our favourite ones. The fly zone on level 3 is also quite interesting. And then there is also a café serving lovely matcha. A bonus.

Opuszczając wystawę SF, idziemy na obchód pozostałej części muzeum. Jest ono zbyt rozległe, aby wszystko dokładnie zobaczyć podczas jednej wizyty. Ale też nie każda galeria odzwierciedla nasze zainteresowania. Tym niemniej niektóre trasy są naprawdę ciekawe. The Legend of Apollo i Exploring Space na poziomie 0 są dla nas najbardziej intrygujące. Strefa latania na poziomie 3 jest również dość ciekawa. Jest też kawiarnia serwująca pyszną matchę. Bonus.

Myeongdong Cathedral (명동 성당)

After breakfast, we go to see the nearby cathedral. Myeongdong Cathedral of the Virgin Mary was built in 1898 in neogothic style by French missionaries. It is made of red brick and has a tall, pointed steeple. The cathedral's interior is spacious and airy, with a high ceiling and stained-glass windows. We do not take pictures inside not to disturb people.

Po śniadaniu udajemy się na zwiedzanie pobliskiej katedry. Katedra Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Myeongdong została zbudowana w 1898 roku, w stylu neogotyckim, przez francuskich misjonarzy. Jest zbudowana z czerwonej cegły i ma charakterystyczną wysoką, spiczastą wieżę. Wnętrze katedry jest przestronne i przewiewne, z wysokim sufitem i witrażami, ale nie robimy zdjęć, żeby ludziom nie przeszkadzać.

It is really hot, so we are thirsty. I know there is a café here with a view of the cathedral, and we find it easily. Now we are talking.

Jest naprawdę gorąco, więc już nam się znowu chce pić. Wiem jednak, że jest tu kawiarnia z widokiem na katedrę i bez problemu ją znajdujemy. Teraz to rozumiem.

Seoul awaits

 After nearly a year of more or less systematic Korean classes, it is perhaps a good time to visit Seoul. Plane tickets were so expensive we almost gave up, but I had already booked my language school for two weeks, so in the end, we persisted. Boarding the plane, I was tired as a zombie (I had pulled out an all-nighter to finish marking my supplemental exams), so I slept away most of the flight (excuse my hair!). I watched half of a movie (fell asleep even though it was an excellent movie), had my meals, and that is all. The rest of the time, I was zoned out. Marcin was watching movies one after another.

Po prawie roku mniej lub bardziej systematycznych lekcji koreańskiego, przyszedł czas na odwiedzenie Seulu. Bilety lotnicze były tak drogie, że prawie zrezygnowaliśmy z tego pomysłu, ale już wcześniej zarezerwowałam szkołę językową na dwa tygodnie, więc w końcu jakoś się udało. Wsiadając do samolotu, byłam zmęczona jak nie przymierzając zombie (sporo ponad dobę bez snu bo przed samym wyjazdem miałam sierpniowe egzaminy do poprawienia), więc przespałam większość lotu (stąd “fryzura”) Obejrzałam pół filmu (zasnęłam w trakcie,  chociaż był to świetny film), zjadłam posiłki i to wszystko. Przez resztę czasu byłam wyłączona. Marcin tymczasem urządził sobie maraton fimowy.

After landing, we went to tick off our after-arrival COVID PCR (we had it pre-booked and so it went relatively smoothly) and then grabbed a taxi to the hotel. It was a rainy day in Seoul, and neon lights reflected beautifully on the wet surfaces, so everything looked quite beautiful.

Po wylądowaniu poszliśmy odfajkować nasz COVID PCR po przyjeździe (mieliśmy to wcześniej zarezerwowane, więc poszło stosunkowo gładko), a następnie złapaliśmy taksówkę do hotelu. To był deszczowy dzień w Seulu i neony pięknie odbijały się na mokrej nawierzchni, więc od razu nam się miasto spodobało.

We are staying in the Four Points Sheraton in Myeongdong, although it really is Euljiro. The reception is on the 4th floor, and I find it strange at first, but thinking about it, it gives you an excellent sense of privacy, not having to go through the reception each time you go in and out.

Our room is tidy and comfortable enough, and I love the view of the N Seoul tower. It is quite an iconic view (and we can also see the Myeongdong Cathedral).

Zatrzymujemy się w Four Points Sheraton w Myeongdong, choć tak naprawdę jest to Euljiro. Recepcja znajduje się na 4 piętrze i na początku wydaje mi się to dziwne, ale jak o tym pomyśleć, brak konieczności przechodzenia przez recepcję za każdym razem, gdy wchodzisz i wychodzisz z hotelu daje dużo większe poczucie prywatności.

Nasz pokój jest schludny i wystarczająco wygodny, a w bonusie mamy widok na wieżę N Seoul. (Możemy też z okna zobaczyć katedrę w Myeongdong).

Sun rises above Sanctuary of Truth

We get up before the sunrise and move…. to the balcony. This is how lazy people take sunrise pictures! But with the view of Sanctuary of Truth from your windows, it totally makes sense. (We also took some images from the beach…)

Wstajemy przed wschodem słońca i ruszamy…. na balkon. W ten sposób leniwi ludzie robią zdjęcia wschodu słońca! Ale z widokiem na Sanktuarium Prawdy z okna, to nawet ma sens. Kilka zdjec zrobiliśmy także z plaży.

Before we set off to visit the sanctuary, we stop for breakfast at our hotel and it is really pleasant. Now we are ready.

Zanim wyruszymy na zwiedzanie sanktuarium, zatrzymujemy się an (bardzoprzyjemne)śniadanie w naszym hotelu. Teraz już jesteśmy gotowi.

Golden Tulip

After another great breakfast, gym, and some lazy time at the swimming pool we bid our farewell to Conrad and took a Taxi to Pattaya. The first hotel we are staying at here is Golden Tulip Resort, chosen because of its vicinity to the Sanctuary of Truth. Actually, the sanctuary is well visible from the corner room we booked. Here is the first glance at our room before we head off for sunset and dinner at the Horizon.

Po kolejnym wspaniałym śniadaniu, siłowni i lenistwie na basenie pożegnaliśmy się z Conradem i wzięliśmy taksówkę do Pattayi. Pierwszym hotelem, w którym się tu zatrzymaliśmy, jest Golden Tulip Resort, wybrany ze względu na swoje polożenie niedaleko od Sanktuarium Prawdy. Sanktuarium jest zresztą dobrze widoczne z zarezerwowanego przez nas narożnego pokoju. Oto pierwszy rzut oka na nasz pokój, zanim wyruszymy na zachód słońca i kolację w Horizon.
